| The Emperor presses Kaoru into marrying his daughter, the Second Princess, and Kaoru reluctantly accepts. Prince Niou, on the other hand, marries Rokunokimi, the sixth daughter of the Minister of the Left. Kaoru is attracted to Nakanokimi and expresses his yearning for her. Nakanokimi, who is carrying the child of Prince Niou, tells Kaori about the existence of a half-sister of hers, Ukifune, who is the living image of Oigimi. He catches a glimpse of Ukifune when he visits Uji and is swept away by her resemblance to the dead Oigimi. |
