| The Mimuroto-ji Temple is found in the mountains at the northwest foot of Mt. Myojo, approximately 1.8 km northeast from the Uji Bridge. It is said to have been built approximately 1200 years ago. It is the special main temple of the Honzanshugen sect and visited by many visitors on pilgrimage as the tenth place where visiting worshippers receive amulets among the thirty-three holy places in the Kansai region of Japan for the Goddess of Mercy pilgrimages. The main icon in the temple is an image of Senju Kannon Bosatsu (the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy with one thousand arms). The main temple was reconstructed in the latter half of the Edo period. In the Reiho (secret treasure) hall, the oldest image of Buddha in Seiryo-ji style in Japan, an image of Amidabha and other images of great cultural importance are installed. The Reiho hall can be visited on the 17th every month. The historic site of “Ukifune,” one of the Ten Uji Chapters of The Tale of Genji is marked on the side of the bell tower in the precinct. |

●There is a stone statue of a cow called “Hoshogyu” in front of the main temple. It is said that one can have good luck by touching the statue.
●Constructed in February 2004 as Yume no Ukihashi Park. The beautiful shape of the stone statue of Murasaki Shikibu is framed by the Uji Bridge in the background.
